Due to the presence of Christopher Lloyd, director Sean Olson’s ‘Camp Hideout’ will bring to mind ‘Camp Nowhere’ for several audience members. Written by Kat Olson, C. Neil Davenport, and Dave DeBorde, the film also contains shades of ‘Home Alone’ and even Olson’s own ‘F.R.E.D.I.’. Does the family-friendly comedy get smothered in the nostalgia for those other titles? Or can the film find its own path?

Northwest Arkansas has attracted many filmmakers to the area over the past several years and one of those in Sean Olson Sean is the director of such films as FREDI and Max Winslow and the House of Secrets and for his newest film Project he didn't come to Arkansas but instead went back to summer camp we had the chance to sit down with the esteemed director.

In the heartwarming and adrenaline-pumping family film “Camp Hideout,” releasing Friday from Roadside Attractions, PZAJ, and Called Higher Studios, the traditional summer camp experience takes an unexpected turn when a group of young campers has to outsmart a band of bumbling criminals. Director Sean Olson and producer Jason Brown share their insights and experiences in an exclusive interview, shedding light on the movie’s inspiration.

Q: This film recalls those good ’80s films such as “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “The Breakfast Club.” They’re all about troubled teens and end with a “have a good heart” feeling. They don’t make those kinds of films lately. How did this concept get started? Talk about the concept of the film?

Summer camp shenanigans are at a high in this family comedy that feels a bit like ‘Home Alone’. ‘Camp Hideout’ stars ‘Back to the Future‘s’ Christopher Lloyd and High School Musical‘s Corbin Bleu along with an ensemble cast of kids showing us it’s never too late to ask for help, the power of friendship, and the search for belonging.

Directed by Sean Olson, the film follows mischievous foster teen Noah (Ethan Drew) as he attends a summer camp in an effort to hideout for the criminals he stole from, where all is going well until the bad guys show up looking for Noah and his fellow campers and leaders band together to construct a booby-trapped funhouse to protect him.
